His terrifying visage and cruel tasks where aimed at horrifying and punishing the wicked for their sins. Using his whipping branch, chains and bag or basket he would collect the sinful children and take them away. He also had various punishments for adults as well. Germanic folklore has a distinctly dark and demented flavor and Krampus embodies some of the creepiest of all.
